Brian Michael – Vice President Candidate

My grandfather was a crewman on a B-17 in WWII and was a Delta Airlines employee for 45 years after that.  He passed in 2004, after which I started to slowly grow an interest in flying.  After 4 years of “thinking about it” my sister bought me a discovery flight and said “go do it”!

I started my training in March of 2008, and completed my private in Oct of 2009.  I’m currently instrument rated, and eventually hope to become an instructor.  Currently I am a partner in a 1958 Piper Comanche 250 and I’m building an RV-10, with plans to build a Corvair powered Pietenpol sometime after completing the RV.

I love the camaraderie and friendships developed through aviation.  It is simply great being in the air. Nearly every pilot I come into contact with is an inspiration.  Everyone has an interesting story to hear.  Some are to learn from, some to motivate you to go flying.  If I had to narrow down to one or two people who’ve inspired me the most, it would be Ernie Schnaak and Jack Williamson.  Both were flight instructors of mine when I was doing my private training, and both have taught me the true joys of aviation.  I can’t leave out all those at my local EAA chapter, EAA 690.  They truly are a 2nd family for me.
